SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 19, 2006) - Finishing with a strong final round is the goal of all collegiate golf teams, and on Tuesday in the final round of the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup, the ETSU women's golf team left the Cardinal Club Golf Course with a good finish in tow.

The Bucs fired the second-lowest score of the day, posting a final round 304 to finish with a solid seventh-place showing. ETSU ended the event 33 strokes off the pace set by the team champion and host team Louisville. In their two events of the season so far, the Bucs have enjoyed two Top 7 finishes - including a win in the Draper Valley Invitational earlier this month.

Individually, freshman Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) led the way for ETSU with an even-par 72, while junior Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) rebounded from tough first and second rounds to post a 1-over 73 on the final day. Jansone topped the leaderboard for ETSU, finishing tied for ninth, while junior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) tied for 25th and Ringdahl tied for 32nd

ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds said her team would have liked to have placed higher, but they reached their goals on the final day.

"The goal today was to beat the two teams we were playing with, one of which was South Florida - a perennial Top 40 team nationally," Reynolds said. "We did that and had the second lowest round of the teams today. To finish with strong play on the last day is always positive. We still feel good about where we are as a team, and we're going to keep building."

The Bucs will continue with their fall schedule Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in the Great Smokies Women's Golf Championship in Waynesville, N.C. Check throughout the 2006-07 season to stay informed about ETSU women's golf.
