(March 7, 2004) - Sophomores Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) and Laura Diaz (Aquadilla, P.R.) put together top 10 individual performances, helping the East Tennessee State University women's golf team to a dramatic one-stroke victory over Wofford in the Lady Terrier Intercollegiate Sunday at the Carolina Country Club. It was the first-ever tournament victory for the Lady Bucs golf program.
"This is a great step for our program and I'm extremely proud of our team," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds. "When we put together a strong, consistent effort as a group, this is what we are capable of."
Barton finished third with a 12-over 156, while Diaz posted a 21-over 165 to finish in 10th place. Meanwhile, Buc teammates like senior Kristen Fletcher (Cookeville, Tenn.), junior Robin Downes (Johnson City, Tenn.) and sophomore Kailey Brooks (Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada) also put together strong performances. Fletcher finished tied for 12th at 167, while Downs and Brooks finished tied for 18th with scores of 172. On the individual leaderboard, Radford's Laura Terebey took home the title with a 5-over 149, five strokes better than Wofford's Laura Parris.
