Wednesday, September 19, 2012

MACON, Ga. (Sept. 19, 2012) – ETSU freshman Katie Hirko (Oley, Pa.) was named Atlantic Sun Women's Runner of the Week on Wednesday, following her 10th-place finish at the Virginia Tech Invitational.

Facing other runners from ACC foes such as Florida State, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest, the Oley, Pa. native, crossed the line with a time of 21:58.79 in the 6k race to help the Bucs to a team finish of fourth out of nine teams.  The Bucs ran against No. 2 nationally ranked Florida State and No. 11 regionally ranked Georgia Tech, while Hirko finished ahead of the entire Georgia Tech squad and two Florida State runners.

Hirko and the rest of the Bucs return to action on Sept. 29th at the Great Louisville Classic, which will be the same site as the NCAA Championships on Nov. 17.
