Saturday, October 30, 2010
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 30, 2010) - Senior Ben Ronoh (Sotik, Kenya) capped off his final Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championship appearance with a fourth-place finish Saturday morning, as he finished the 8K race with a time of 24:45 at Milliken Research Park, located in Spartanburg, S.C.
Unfortunately, for the Bucs, Ronoh was the lone ETSU runner to place in the top 10, and the Blue and Gold finished sixth overall at the conference meet. Kennesaw State won its second consecutive cross country championship, as the Owls edged out Belmont by 13 points - 55 to 68.
After the race, Ronoh claimed his second straight first team all-conference accolade after placing in the top seven. USC Upstate's Gilbert Kemboi - who Ronoh finish second to at the USC Upstate Invite two weeks ago - won his first A-Sun Championship after clocking in at 24:00.
Sophomore Landon Milhorn (The Woodlands, Texas) was the second Buccaneer runner to cross the finish line on Saturday, as he completed the course in 22nd with a time of 25:55.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, Kennesaw State's McKenzie Howe made history after she beat North Florida's Shelby Kittrell to win her first A-Sun championship. Howe turned in a time of 17:22, which was 1.4 seconds faster than Kittrell, marking the closest finish in conference history.
However, North Florida didn't leave Spartanburg empty handed, as the Ospreys won the team championship after they had four runners finish in the top 12 to beat out Lipscomb - 55 to 73.
For the Bucs, senior Caitlyn Epps (Cookeville, Tenn.) paced the ETSU women's squad once again. The Cookeville, Tenn. native recorded a time of 18:35 in the 5K race and placed 22nd overall.
As a team, the Buccaneer women finished 10th out of 11 teams to stay ahead of Stetson.
