Sunday, January 23, 2011
Faculty and Staff receive admission for only a Buc ($1)
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 23, 2011) - After kicking off their season-long five-game homestand with a 31-point win over Lipscomb on Saturday, the Lady Bucs look to carry the momentum with them Monday night when ETSU hosts in-state conference rival Belmont. Tip is set for 7 p.m. inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.
The Lady Bucs (9-9, 6-3) got strong contributions from the bench and stormed out to a 22-4 run against Lipscomb as ETSU cruised past the Lady Bisons, 95-64. ETSU's reserves registered 53 points, with freshman guard Jasmine McIntosh (Bowie, Md.) leading the way at 15 points. Fellow freshman Shawn Randall (Orlando, Fla.) also came off the bench to add 14 points, while Gwen Washington (Manassas, Va.) added 11 points in 19 minutes. As a team, the Blue and Gold shot 90 percent (18-20) from the free throw line and out-rebounded Lipscomb 51-33 - including 25 points off 18 offensive rebounds.
Senior post Latisha Belcher (Martinsville, Va.) enters Monday's game eyeing a prestigious club as she is only eight points shy of reaching the 1000-point club, while fellow senior Tara Davis (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) is 29 points away of reaching the group as well.
Belmont, who was picked fourth by the media and tied for fifth by the coaches in the preseason conference polls, bring a record of 7-11, 4-5 into play Monday night.
The Bruins are coming off back-to-back losses to Campbell and USC Upstate, and Belmont is led by junior post and all-conference player Haley Nelson. Nelson leads the club in scoring (14.2), rebounding (8.6) and shooting percentage (50.0), while fellow junior Cacy Burtnett is recording 10.7 points and two threes per game in nine conference games this season.
The Lady Bucs lead the all-time series, 10-5, and ETSU has won the last seven meetings. ETSU defeated the Bruins three times a year ago, including a 77-63 victory in the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament back on March 5, 2010 in Macon, Ga. During this seven-game winning streak, all seven wins have been decided by at least ten points, with ETSU's last loss coming in the 2007 A-Sun Championship, 69-57.
On Monday, the Lady Buccaneer women's basketball grant team is inviting ETSU faculty and staff out to the Dome for a special appreciation night. Faculty and Staff members who show their ETSU ID or work badge at the gate, receive a special $1 ticket price. In addition, faculty and staff members that bring their family to the game, receive $1 admission as well.
ETSU students who attend Monday's game have the chance to sign up and register for the chance to win $50 cash. The winner will be announced during the second half and you have to be in attendance to be eligible for the prize. Also, students who sign up at every home game will have a chance to win a prize pack at the end of the season.
Fans unable to make the trip to the Dome can listen to all the action on WXSM-AM 640 as Voice of the Lady Bucs John Stevens will carry the play-by-play. Live video streaming will also be available on A-Sun.TV, while live stats will be offered via Gametracker.
