JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 13, 2010)
- Fresh off a 17-point win over Chattanooga Friday night, the Lady Bucs gear up for their home opener as the ETSU women's basketball team hosts Richmond Sunday afternoon inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center. Tip is slated for 1:30 p.m.

After playing a fairly even game for the first 30 minutes Friday night inside McKenzie Arena, the Lady Bucs closed out the final 9 minutes, 41 seconds on a 27-8 run as ETSU began the season with a 77-60 victory over Chattanooga. Senior Tara Davis (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) tied a career high with 23 points and also recorded seven assists and five rebounds in 39 minutes of play. Meanwhile, Destiny Mitchell (Bluffton, Ga.) enjoyed her first regular season game in a Lady Buccaneer uniform as the Bluffton, Ga. native posted a double-double. Mitchell ended with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the victory over the Lady Mocs.

The win on Friday night marked the second straight season ETSU opened the year with a victory, marking the first time this feat has been accomplished since the start of 2005-06 campaign. In addition, the win in Chattanooga was the first on the Lady Mocs' home floor for ETSU since the Lady Bucs defeated their in-state rival, 55-50, in the 2005 SoCon Tournament.

Like the Lady Bucs, Richmond enters Sunday's game fresh off a victory as the Spiders defeated Western Carolina, 79-65, Friday night in Cullowhee, N.C. First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection Brittani Shells led Richmond with a career-high 34-point effort, while fellow senior Crystal Goring added 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for the Spiders in the win over the Catamounts.

Richmond, who finished the 2009-10 season with a 20-13 mark and reached the second round of the WNIT, was picked fifth in the preseason all-conference poll.

Sunday marks the first-ever meeting between these two programs.

ETSU students who attend Sunday's game have the chance to sign up and register for the chance to win $50 cash. The winner will be announced during the second half and you have to be in attendance to be eligible for the prize. Also, students who sign up at every home game will have a chance to win a prize pack at the end of the season.

The ETSU women's basketball grant team will also host a special Bagels and Basketball pregame tailgate, starting at 12:30 p.m. Local church groups were invited to this special promotion and those who bring a church bulletin on Sunday will be treated to bagels, fruit, juice and coffee on a first-come-first-served basis.

Fans unable to make the trip to Johnson City can catch all the action live on A-Sun.TV, while live stats will also be available via GameTracker.
