Surging Lady Bucs searching for eighth straight win on Saturday

Friday, January 29, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 29, 2010) - The red-hot ETSU women's basketball team puts its season-best seven-game winning streak on the line Saturday afternoon when the Lady Bucs host Lipscomb in Atlantic Sun Conference action. Tip is set for 1:30 p.m. inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

The Lady Bucs are coming off a 23-point win over Campbell on Wednesday night where four Lady Buccaneer players scored in double figures, including senior Siarre Evans' (Griffin, Ga.) game-high 20-point effort. As a team, ETSU forced the Lady Camels into 30 turnovers and the Lady Bucs capitalized by turning those mistakes into 43 points on the offensive end.

ETSU (11-7, 9-1 in A-Sun) knows Lipscomb quite well, as these two teams just met 10 days ago with the Lady Bucs knocking off the Lady Bisons 76-65 in Nashville. Evans came off the bench to score 14 points in fourteen minutes, while fellow senior TaRonda Wiles (Danville, Va.) poured in a game-best 25 points.

Lipscomb enters Saturday's game with a 4-17, 2-9 mark after falling at Belmont, 66-53, on Wednesday night. The Lady Bisons have lost five straight since defeating the Bruins by six in overtime back on Jan. 11.

The Lady Bisons are currently averaging 60.6 points per game and are led by junior guard Jenna Bartsokas. Bartsokas ranks 10th in the conference in scoring (12.4) and she also leads the team with 53 total assists on the year.

ETSU leads the all-time series 10-1, with its lone loss being a 57-52 setback during the 2006-07 season in Nashville. The Lady Bucs have won the last seven meetings in the series and all five in Johnson City.

Fans unable to make the trip to Johnson City can listen to all the action live, as "Voice of the Lady Bucs" Don Helman will handle the play-by-play duties. Fans in Johnson City should tune into WKPT-AM (1590), WOPI-AM (1490) in Bristol, WKPT-AM (1400) in Kingsport. In addition, 94.3-FM in Kingsport, 97.9-FM in Bristol, and 97.7-FM in Johnson City will carry the game. Live video streaming is also available through ASun.TV and live stats will be offered through

In addition, ETSU students who attend Saturday's contest - along with a handful of selected Lady Buccaneer games - will have a chance to win a Nintendo Wii and enter a drawing for a $1,000 cash giveaway, which will be announced at the last regular season game on Feb. 22. Each time ETSU students attend a Lady Buccaneer game, they will have an opportunity to enter the drawing for more chances to win the cash prize at the end of the season against USC Upstate.

Also, Saturday marks the Lady Buccaneer dorm challenge during the Lipscomb game. The dorm who records the highest percentage of students in attendance will win $1,000 cash.
