Lady Bucs look to finish up road trip with win at Mercer Saturday
Friday, January 27, 2006 MACON, Ga. (January 27, 2006) - After picking up a victory at Stetson on Thursday, the Lady Bucs will vie for their second win of the road trip against Mercer on Saturday. The league-leading Lady Bucs have yet to drop an Atlantic Sun contest on the road, while Mercer has been playing tough at home this season, boasting a 5-1 record in Macon. All five wins have come against A-Sun opponents.
About the Game ... Today's game will match two of the A-Sun top teams, with both ETSU and Mercer coming off conference wins on Thursday night. The Lady Bucs topped Stetson, 61-51, in DeLand, Fla., while the Bears defeated Kennesaw State, 69-55, in Macon. ETSU is currently atop the conference standings at 8-2, while the Bears are sitting in fifth at 6-3. Today's contest will be the first of two this season. Scouting the Bears ... Sarah Russell is leading Mercer in both scoring and rebounding, posting 11.6 points, and 7.4 rebounds a night. After Russell, five Bears are averaging six or more points a game, including Courtney Hall, Erin Keller, Tanya Kessenich, and Rosanna Davis. The Bears' three A-Sun losses came against Gardner-Webb, Campbell, and North Florida. Since dropping their first two conference tilts against Campbell and GWU, Mercer has rebounded, winning six of their last seven conference games, including victories over A-Sun powers Florida Atlantic and Belmont.
