(Jan. 11, 2005) -  East Tennessee State senior Tiffani Mayes (Sumter, S.C.) has been selected at the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 11, it was announced today.  Mayes posted a career-best 32 points in the Lady Bucs victory over Davidson Jan. 8, and is consistently climbing the national scoring charts.  In the two Bucs victories last week, she averaged 31.0 ppg., while her 21.2 ppg. overall in 2004-05 is a team and Southern Conference high.

Recording one of the best senior campaigns in Lady Bucs history, Mayes tallied her third double-double of the season with 30 points and 13 rebounds in the ETSU victory over Western Carolina on Monday.  Averaging 82 percent from the charity stripe with two blocks and two steals during last week's competition, Mayes shot 68 percent from the field and is shooting a combined 53 percent for the year.  A mere 47 points away from the celebrated 1,000 point club, Mayes guided ETSU to two straight home and Southern Conference victories last week from Memorial Center.  The Bucs now stand at 6-8 overall and have improved to a 4-3 SoCon slate in 2004-05.  Mayes also boasts a team leading 8.1 rpg, has tallied 16 assists, 13 blocks and 16 steals thus far.

"We are very proud of the effort that Tiffani puts forth every time she steps on the court.  She is a great leader and role model for our team," Lady Bucs head coach Karen Kemp said.  "She is a constant threat both offensively and defensively, and her overall ability is a great asset to our team."

ETSU will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 15, when they make the short trip to face the Appalachian State Mountaineers.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. with pre-game and play-by-play analysis on the Mountain States Health Alliance Buccaneer Sports Network beginning at 12:00 p.m.
