Friday, November 28, 2003

PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 29, 2003) - Despite leading by as many as seven points with under six minutes remaining in the first half, the East Tennessee State women's basketball team was plagued by poor shooting as Temple rebounded for a 68-46 in its home opener on November 28 at McGonigle Hall. The Lady Bucs (0-1) shot just 31-percent from the field, including 2-of-13 from three-point range, and the Owls (2-1) outscored ETSU 36-20 in the second half to roll to an easy victory. Tiffani Mayes (Sumter, S.C.) led East Tennessee State with 16 points. B. J. Banjo (Baltimore, Md.) was the only other Bucs player to put double figures in the scoring column with 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting. Lauren Trantham (Asheville, N.C.) moved into ninth place among ETSU's all-time top rebounders Friday night. Her 12 boards now gives her a grand total of 640 rebounds for her career. Sophomore center Candice Dupree led the Owls with 14 points. Senior guard Christena Hamilton (12) and junior guard Cynthia Jordan (10) also scored in double figures for Temple. Jordan had a career-high 10 assists, while Hamilton dished out a career-high five. Senior forward Tynecia Pam, who scored seven points, tied a career-high with 10 rebounds. Temple held the edge in assists (25-10) and tunrovers (TU 10, ETSU 17) while East Tennessee State out-rebounded the Owls and had the advantage in steals (7-5). Each team blocked five shots with Dupree having a game-high three. The Lady Bucs will return to action Monday night when they open their Southern Conference schedule on the road at Furman. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
