Lady Bucs set to host Appalachian State

Friday, January 16, 2004

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2004) -- East Tennessee State's women's basketball team (6-8, 6-3 SoCon) will host Appalachian State (3-11, 2-5 SoCon) prior to the men's game verus Western Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Lady Bucs will tip-off at 1 p.m. in Memorial Center followed by the Buccaneer men at 4 p.m. During last night's edition of "Inside Buccaneer Sports," ETSU head coach Karen Kemp told host Don Helman that the Mountaineers are the best 2-5 team she has seen this season. "The last few we have been breaking down the tape," said Kemp, whose team sit in second place in the SoCon behind Chattanooga. "They have struggled this season so far, but they are young and will grow up. I just hope they don't figure up they are a good team before they come here and play us." Kemp and the Lady Bucs will put their six-game home winning streak on the line on Saturday, while the Mountaineers have lost 11 straight on the road. ETSU hopes history won't repeat itself, since the last time Appalachian State came through with a road victory was Feb. 8, 2003, when ASU defeated the Lady Bucs 76-65 in Johnson City.
