Mayes named SoCon Player of the Week for second time this season

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 27, 2004) - The Southern Conference announced on Tuesday that East Tennessee State University junior Tiffani Mayes (Sumter, S.C.) has been named the SoCon Women's Basketball Player of the Week. It marks the second time this season that Mayes has been honored with the award. Mayes, a 6-foot-2 center, averaged 15.5 points and 17.0 rebounds per game last week. She started the week with 21 points and 15 rebounds in an 80-65 win at Wofford on January 24. Mayes shot 61.5 percent (8-13) from the floor and added two assists in the win. She then finished the week with 10 points and 19 rebounds against Furman on Jan. 26. Mayes' 19 rebounds was a career-high and the most by a women's basketball player this season in the SoCon. She currently leads the league in rebounding, averaging 9.9 rebounds per game. The Lady Bucs own an 8-9 record overall and are 8-4 versus conference opponents. The ETSU women will host Chattanooga this Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. Saturday is also "Girls Day Out" at Memorial Center.
