JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2012) – The ETSU volleyball team looks to put the exclamation point on a successful homestand this weekend when the Bucs face Jacksonville and North Florida inside Brooks Gym. The Blue and Gold take on the Dolphins Friday night at 7 p.m., before closing things out with UNF Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

The Bucs (13-8, 4-3 A-Sun) have won two of their first three matches on this homestand as ETSU split with Northern Kentucky (3-2) and Lipscomb (1-3) last weekend, while most recently taking down Mercer in four on Tuesday night. Overall, ETSU has won five of its six home games in 2012, where the Bucs are outhitting their opponents .271 to .166 and out-blocking them by 26, 59 to 33. Junior Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) is averaging 4.39 kills and 4.65 digs per set in the six home matches, while freshman middle blocker Khadijah Wiley (Columbus, Ga.) is hitting .529 (44-7-70).

LAST TIME OUT

Megan Devine and Jamie Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) both recorded their fourth straight double-doubles, while the Bucs finished with a season-high 85 digs. Devine generated her first 20-20 game of her collegiate career after tallying 21 kills and a career high 26 digs, and Rutledge ended with 51 assists and 11 digs. Overall, four players notched double figures in kills as Bethany Gesell (High Point, N.C.), Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.), and Wiley joined Devine in the statistical category. Wiley and Hardy each registered 11 kills, while Gesell added 10 kills, four digs, and two block assists. Hardy also ended with eight digs and six blocks, and Wiley hit .529 (11-2-17) for the match.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Jacksonville has dropped eight of its last ten matches and sits 4-16, 2-5 on the season. The Dolphins have defeated Stetson (3-0) and Mercer (3-2) in conference play, and 12 of their 20 matches have been decided in three sets. Jacksonville is led Kendall Courtney and Alison Loeppky as Courtney ranks fifth in the A-Sun in assists per set (9.26), while Loeppky is 10th in attack percentage (.268). Friday marks the 13th meeting between the two schools with the Dolphins holding a slight 7-5 series lead, including a four-set win over ETSU last year in Brooks Gym. Devine finished with a double-double (20 kills/15 digs), but the Bucs were held to a .145 (47-27-138) attack percentage.

North Florida enters its match at USC Upstate on Friday night with a record of 10-9, 2-5 in A-Sun play. After winning seven straight matches from Sept. 7-15, the Ospreys have lost five of their last seven since, including a pair of home setbacks to Mercer and Kennesaw State last weekend. As a team, UNF ranks second in the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.179) and third in kills (13.03), service aces (1.40), and digs (17.22) per set. ETSU has won eight of the 11 meetings in the series, including four straight. The Bucs defeated the Ospreys in four sets last season in Brooks, thanks to ETSU hitting .307 (56-14-137) for the match.
