Monday, September 10, 2012

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 10, 2012) – Coming off their final preseason tournament of the season over the weekend at Alabama, the ETSU volleyball team returns home Tuesday night to host Western Carolina in a non-conference match. Game time is set for 7 p.m. inside Brooks Gym.

The Bucs (8-5) – who dropped three of four matches at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash – end a grueling stretch of games on Tuesday night as the match with the Catamounts marks the ninth game in a 12 day stretch for the Blue and Gold. Following its match with Western Carolina, the Bucs will have a week off before opening Atlantic Sun play at Mercer on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

After winning two of its first three to begin the season, Western Carolina has lost six of its last seven matches, dropping to 3-7 on the year. The Catamounts defeated Campbell in five, while falling to North Carolina State and Central Michigan over the weekend at the N.C. State Invitational.

Sophomore outside hitter Caitlin Piechota leads the team with 3.57 kills per set, while junior libero Morgan Cochran is averaging a team-best 4.11 digs per set. Piechota ranks fourth in the SoCon in kills per set, while Cochran is eighth in the league in digs per set.

Tuesday marks the 62nd meeting between the former SoCon rivals and ETSU leads the all-time series 32-29 dating back to the 1978 season.
