Thursday, September 17, 2009

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2009) - The ETSU volleyball team is set face Kennesaw State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Mercer on Saturday at 3 p.m. as the Bucs look to move up in the Atlantic Sun standings.

The Bucs (3-7, 2-1 A-Sun) dropped a tough match to Chattanooga Tuesday, 3-1. Junior Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) leads ETSU with 87 kills on the season, while Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) is third in the A-Sun with 315 assists.

ETSU leads the all-time series against the Owls 3-1, but dropped the last meeting between the two teams as they were swept by Kennesaw State on the road last year.

The Owls (7-1, 2-0 A-Sun) have won five-straight including conference matches against USC Upstate and Mercer. Kennesaw State is led by senior Asjia Stokes who has posted 124 kills and a .300 hitting percentage through eight games.

The Bears (3-6, 1-1) have dropped two of their last three matches falling to Kennesaw State 3-1 and Florida A&M 3-0, while defeating USC Upstate 3-1. Mercer is led by Rachel Urbelis who has a team leading 76 kills. The Bucs are 3-3 all-time against Mercer after knocking the Bears out of the A-Sun Tournament in 2008.
