Volleyball downs Chattanooga in 3-0 sweep

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (September 20, 2005) - The East Tennessee State volleyball team swept in-state rival Chattanooga, 3-0, Tuesday night, in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Lady Bucs took three-straight nail-biters from the Mocs, winning 33-31, 30-28, and 30-28. With the win, the Lady Bucs stand at 7-5 on the season.
Sophomore Callie Kiselich (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led a balanced ETSU attack, hitting .400 with 12 kills, while junior trio Jennifer Sartor (Toronto, Ontario), Brittany Kessel (Libertyville, Ill.) and Sarah Buhr (Stockton, Calif.) chipped in with 11 kills apiece.
"Chattanooga has always been a rival of ours, so it's great to get a win," said head coach Lindsey Devine. "We played well and executed the things we've been working on in practice."
Kessel and Jennifer Emerson (Santa Clara, Calif.) were nearly even in the setting column, with 25 and 24 assists, respectively. Emerson also
led the Lady Bucs in the digs with 16, followed by Kiselich with 15.
"When our opponent pushed and our backs were against the wall, we pushed through with confidence and really fought back," said Devine of her team's effort.
The Lady Bucs outhit the Mocs .258 to .199, while Chattanooga committed less hitting errors, making 19 miscues to ETSU's 22.
Lindsey Galloway paced the Mocs with 17 kills, as her team fell to 5-7 on the year. Teammate Michaela Huff contributed 21 assists.
The Lady Bucs begin conference play on Friday, Sept. 23, as the Fighting Camels of Campbell University come to Brooks Gym for ETSU's first-ever Atlantic Sun match. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
