JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 23, 2014) - ETSU was unable to overcome a solid pitching performance by Stetson ace Meridith Owen, who allowed just two hits Sunday, as the Buccaneers fell to the Hatters, 11-0.

Stetson left fielder Courtney Brandt went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of home runs, driving in five RBI en route to helping the Hatters seal the three-game sweep of ETSU.

WRAP-UP

For just the second time this season, the Buccaneers (11-15, 1-8) were held scoreles, as Stetson's Owen cruised to a her 12th win of the season, a two-hit shutout. In 12 and two-thirds innings of work over the weekend, Owen allowed just one earned run while striking out 15 batters.

Both of the Bucs' hits came in the bottom of the third inning, as Mykeah Johnson (Cohutta, Ga.) led off the inning with a double to left center.

With one out, freshman shortstop Kelsey Chernak (Ooltewah, Tenn.) singled to advance Johnson to third before Nicole Fox (Peachtree City, Ga.) walked to load the bases. However, the Bucs were unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunity, with Johnson being retired at home plate on a fielder's choice and Katie Wolff fouling out to end the inning.

ETSU was outhit in its three-game series with Stetson, 42-12.

The Buccaneers, who averaged nearly nine hits per game in their first two three-game series of the season, have been limited to a combined 20 hits in six games versus Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.

Brandt batted 4-of-10 for the Hatters (21-5, 6-2) during the weekend, hitting four home runs and driving in 12 RBI. The left fielder hit six home runs last season.

A-SUN: POWER CONFERENCE

Last season, seven Atlantic Sun teams ranked in the RPI Top 100, the fourth-most of any conference in the nation behind only the SEC (12), Pac-12 (9), and Big Ten (8). The Southern Conference, which ETSU will join next season finished with just three teams ranking in the RPI Top 100.

After beginning the season with seven wins in its first 12 contests, ETSU has struggled to find the win column in league competition, opening A-Sun play with a 1-8 record.

LOOKING AHEAD

Currently, the Bucs are scheduled to take on Liberty Wednesday, March 26 in a double-header; however, anticipated inclement weather could potentially postpone the series. Updates regarding any schedule changes will be released on ETSUBucs.com and via Buc Updates, which can be registered for here.
