JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 25, 2012) – The ETSU softball team will play its home finale when the Bucs host Eastern Kentucky on Thursday evening from Betty Basler Field. First pitch of the non-conference twin bill is set for 4 p.m.

Thursday will mark the second consecutive Ohio Valley Conference opponent for ETSU (11-32), as the Bucs were swept by Tennessee Tech Tuesday night in Cookeville. Sophomore Jackie Baird (Ooltewah, Tenn.) recorded a pair of hits in the two games against the Golden Eagles as she drove in a run with an RBI double in game one. Meanwhile, senior Annie Martin (Centerville, Tenn.) reached base three times and scored two runs.

Eastern Kentucky (22-25) is coming off a series win over Eastern Illinois in conference play and is led by the combo of senior outfielder Diane Gallagher and junior infielder Raquel Howes at the plate. Gallagher leads the team with a .385 batting average (60-156) and has scored a team-leading 41 runs, while going 19-for-23 in stolen base attempts. With Gallagher bringing the contact and speed, Howes carries the power, as she has totaled 12 doubles, 14 home runs, and 50 RBI in 47 games this season. In the circle, a pair of freshmen have anchored the staff as Leanna Pittsenbarger and Shaylon Robb have combined for 18 of the 22 wins. Pittsenbarger has posted 11 of those wins and has 2.98 ERA (74 ER/173.2 IP).

The Colonels lead the all-time series, 7-0, and defeated the Bucs, 3-2 in eight innings, back on Feb. 18 in Troy, Ala. Sophomore pitcher Katie Wolff (LaGrange, Texas) allowed the three runs (two earned) on nine hits in 7.2 innings, while junior infielder Sam Lower (Sebring, Fla.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Fans unable to make the trip to Betty Basler Field can watch all the action live on A-Sun.TV, while live stats will be offered via Gametracker on ETSUBucs.com.
