Bucs begin critical conference road swing Thursday at Stetson

Wednesday, April 06, 2011

DeLAND, Fla. (April 6, 2011) - After having the final two games of its homestand washed out yesterday, the ETSU softball team now hits the road for a critical eight-game conference road swing, beginning Thursday afternoon at Stetson. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Bucs, who had their doubleheader with Tennessee Tech postponed due to inclement weather that came across the region late Monday and early Tuesday, will now play four straight conference road series as ETSU faces Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast, Mercer, and Kennesaw State during this all-important stretch.

Thursday marks the first conference road series of the season for the Blue and Gold, as ETSU currently stands 13-21, 2-6 in A-Sun play. Sophomore infielder Sam Lower (Sebring, Fla.) looks to heat up as she makes the trip back to her home state. Lower is hitting a team-leading .353 (18-51) with a double, home run, six runs scored, and eight RBI in 18 games played away from Johnson City. Meanwhile, freshman Jackie Baird (Ooltewah, Tenn.) has 16 hits in 49 at-bats (.327), along with two doubles, one homer, and seven RBI on the road.

Stetson enters the doubleheader with a record of 15-20, 1-5 in A-Sun play. The Hatters have enjoyed the majority of their success at home in 2011 as fourteen of Stetson's wins have come inside Patricia Wilson Field.

As a team, Stetson ranks third in the league with its .280 batting average, while junior Chelsea Trotto ranks tenth in the A-Sun with her .348 average. Overall, four Stetson hitters are batting over .300.

Fans unable to make the trip to DeLand, can view all the action on Stetson's Hatter Vision ($9.95), while live stats will be offered via Gametracker.
