Softball looks to continue winning ways against King on Monday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 20, 2011)
- Coming off their sweep over Presbyterian last Thursday afternoon, the Buccaneer softball team looks to continue their winning ways on Monday evening when ETSU hosts King College in a doubleheader, beginning at 4 p.m. from Betty Basler Field.

ETSU (10-14), winners of three straight and six of eight, have enjoyed an offensive explosion during this stretch. The Bucs, who have recorded 16 doubles and ten home runs since March 11, are also hitting a blistering .358; while averaging seven runs per games over their last eight contests. Individually, junior Marlina Delisa (Tucson, Ariz.) and freshman Jackie Baird (Ooltewah, Tenn.) have heated up at the plate. Delisa is hitting .500 (9-18) with three runs scored and five RBI in her last seven outings and Baird has 13 hits in her last 27 at-bats along with two doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI.

Meanwhile, in the circle, senior righty Jessica Duncan (Ooltewah, Tenn.) has posted three wins in her last four starts, while junior Shelby Morris (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) has earned a pair of wins in her last four appearances.

King was swept by Lees-McRae on Thursday in Banner Elk, N.C. and the Tornado currently sit 7-15 on the season.

Five Tornado players are hitting over .300, as Christy Kooch is leading the way with a team-high .355 average (22-62). Kooch also leads the club with three doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI.
