ETSU softball looks to get back on track Saturday against Presbyterian

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 19, 2010) - After being swept by Liberty in their home-opener Tuesday, the Lady Buccaneer softball team looks to get back into the win column Saturday afternoon when ETSU hosts Presbyterian. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m. at the ETSU Softball Complex.

 

The Lady Bucs belted four home runs against Liberty on Tuesday, but the Lady Flames surged past ETSU 6-3 in game one and 6-4 in the nightcap.

 

ETSU (9-15) is currently led by the strong offensive output of senior Trisha Massenzo (Russellville, Tenn.) - who brings an eight-game hitting streak into action on Saturday. Massenzo is hitting .462 (12-26) with three doubles, three home runs, five runs scored and 11 RBI during this stretch. Fellow senior Cheniece Cason (Moreno Valley, Calif.) is leading the team with a .329 batting average and the Moreno Valley, Calif. native has hit safely in seven straight games.

 

Meanwhile, Presbyterian has won four of its last six games and enters Saturday's doubleheader with a record of 8-5. The Blue Hose are led by junior third baseman Taylor Staten and senior first baseman Rachel Parker. Both players are hitting .400, while Staten leads the team with 14 hits. In addition, Presbyterian's pitching has a team ERA of 2.22 and sophomore right-hander Leslie Hensley is boasting a 3-2 record with 1.14 ERA (5 ER/30.2 IP).
