ETSU faces N.C. Central Wednesday, Campbell Thursday

DURHAM, N.C. (April 20, 2010) - The ETSU softball team returns to action this week as the Lady Bucs gear up for a pair of mid-week doubleheaders. The Blue and Gold face North Carolina Central Wednesday afternoon at 4/6 p.m., while taking on Campbell in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Thursday at 4/6 p.m.

ETSU (16-30, 5-11) is coming off a weekend split as the Lady Bucs swept Mercer Friday night, but dropped a pair to Kennesaw State on Saturday.

Senior Cheniece Cason (Moreno Valley, Calif.) helped guide the Lady Bucs over the weekend. Cason, who hit safely in three of the four games, went 5-for-12 with a double, three runs scored and drove in the game-winning run in the 5-4 comeback win over the Bears Friday night. Cason's one-out sac-fly RBI brought home pinch runner Tara Hartnett (Snellville, Ga.) from third - giving the Lady Bucs a walk-off win in game one. The Moreno Valley, Calif. native scored runs in three of the four games this weekend and went 3-for-4 with a double vs. Kennesaw State in game two Saturday.

Joining Cason with a hot bat is junior catcher/third baseman Katie Henderson (Jackson, Tenn.) and freshman designated player Whitley Hensley (Erwin, Tenn.). Through 16 conference games, Henderson is hitting .341 with two doubles, three home runs, nine RBI, and ten runs scored. Meanwhile, Hensley, has six hits in 17 at-bats against conference foes (.353) and has recorded a double and three runs scored.

North Carolina Central has dropped 14 of its last 16 games and currently sit at 7-33 overall. The Eagles are led by senior outfielder Desanbra Franklin who is hitting a team-best .347 with a 12 doubles, a triple, six home runs and 24 RBI.

On Thursday the Lady Bucs look to keep their A-Sun Tournament hopes alive when traveling to Buies Creek, N.C. and face two-time defending tournament champion Campbell.

After losing seven straight games, the Lady Camels have bounced back by winning three of their last four - including a sweep over North Florida last Friday.

Campbell (18-26-1, 5-7) is led by freshman speedster Sarah Forgacs as she is hitting a team-high .353 (42-119) and scored 24 runs, while recording a team-best 16 stolen bases. Junior pitcher/outfielder Lauren Stephan is the Lady Camels' leading power hitter with seven home runs and 26 RBI.
