JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 24, 2003) -- East Tennessee State softball coach Amy Fuller announced that Christina Shanko has been added to the Buccaneers coaching staff for the 2003-04 academic season. Shanko, a former right-handed pitcher with Seton Hall and native of Delmont, Pa., will replace Jennifer Herzig as the team's new graduate assistant coach. Herzig earned her master's degree from ETSU last May. "I am really excited about having Christina join the ETSU softball staff," said Fuller. "She brings a wealth of playing and pitching experience with her, and I know that she is going to make a positive impact on the program immediately." She also finished her four-year career with the Pirates ranked second in appearances (102) and strikeouts (481). In 2000, Shanko compiled a 1.01 ERA which was 17th in the nation that year and is the best by any Seton Hall pitcher. Shanko's summer team, the Pittsburgh Pride, also captured the 23 & under Pennsylvania State Championship in which Shanko hurled a no-hitter in the championship game.
