BLACKSBURG, Va. (Aug. 25, 2013) - The ETSU women's soccer team played Virginia Tech to a standstill through the match's first 66 minutes, but the Buccaneers were unable to overcome a red card late in the match, falling 2-0 to the Hokies on the road.

Tied at 0-0 with 24 minutes to play, ETSU junior Andie Stone was given a red card after attempting to slow Virginia Tech's Jazmine Reeves on a breakaway. Despite displaying no malicious intent, because Stone was the last ETSU defender on the play, pulling Reeves' jersey resulted in the red card, forcing the Buccaneers (0-2) to play at an 11-on-10 disadvantage for the remainder of the match.

The Hokies (2-0) capitalized on the one-player advantage, scoring two goals in the match's final 24 minutes to seal the 2-0 victory.

Virginia Tech's Kelsey Loupee broke the match's deadlock with a goal in the 67th minute after collecting a rebound following a missed Hokies' shot, while Murielle Tierman added another goal in the 75th minute.

For the second time in as many matches, ETSU freshman goalkeeper Jasmine Elliott (Preston, England) was stellar in goal, making several impressive saves to help keep the Buccaneers within striking distance. Elliott recorded six saves on Virginia Tech's 28 shot attempts.

"Virginia Tech is an extremely strong team," ETSU head coach Adam Sayers said following the match. "We knew the it would be a difficult game, but I was certainly proud of how we battled for each other."

The Buccaneers will return to Summers-Taylor stadium for their first home match of the season Friday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. as they host future Southern Conference opponent VMI.
