ETSU one of just 37 schools nationwide to send both men's and women's teams to NCAA Tennis Championships

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 29, 2014) - At a special viewing party Tuesday inside the D.P. Culp University Center, the ETSU men's and women's tennis teams learned their opponents for the upcoming NCAA Tennis Championships.

The women's squad will take on fourth-seeded Duke in Durham, N.C., Friday, May 9, while the men's team will stay in state, taking on sixteenth-seeded Columbia in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, May 10.

Both ETSU tennis teams enjoyed immense success this season, with both squads earning Atlantic Sun Championships and helping ETSU emerge as one of the elite dual-programs in the nation. ETSU is one of just 37 teams in the country to send both men's and women's tennis teams to the NCAA Championships.

MEN'S PRIMER

ETSU vs. Columbia - May 10 - Nashville, Tenn.

The 65th-ranked ETSU men's tennis team will be making its eighth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and 12th overall appearance. The Bucs (14-8) finished the regular season with 11 consecutive wins en route to winning the program's eighth consecutive Atlantic Sun Championship title.

The winner of the Bucs' (14-8) match-up with No. 18 Columbia will take on the winner of host No. 20 Vanderbilt and No. 40 Virginia Tech for a trip to the Round of Sixteen the following weekend in Athens, Ga.

Columbia went unbeaten in Ivy League play this season en route to winning the Ivy League Championship and clinching a spot in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship. The Lions (20-1), who are currently riding an 18-match win streak, will be making their ninth NCAA Championship appearance and first since 2012.

ETSU has twice picked up first-round wins in the NCAA Championship, beating No. 26 Notre Dame in 2008 and No. 32 Alabama in 2010.
