Bucs make final tune up before A-Sun Championship this weekend in Nashville

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (April 3, 2014) – The ETSU men’s golf team makes its final tune up before the Atlantic Sun Championship as the Bucs prepare for the Mason Rudolph Championship, which begins Friday morning at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.

Following this weekend’s tournament, the Blue and Gold gear up for the conference championship, which will be held April 20-22 at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BUCS

ETSU is coming off a second-place finish at the Seahawk Intercollegiate back on March 17.

The tournament was shortened as inclement weather cancelled the final at the Country Club of Landfall. Overall, the Bucs tallied a two-round score of 3-over-par 579 (279-300).

Sophomore Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) tied for sixth at 2-under-par 142. The Buccaneer sophomore shot a 5-under 67 in the opening round and battled harsh conditions in round two en route to carding a 3-over 75. Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) also finished in the top-10 as he tied for eighth at 1-under-par 143. Like Kristjansson, Meronk also finished with a 75 in the second round, while posting a 4-under 68 in the opener.

As a team, the Blue and Gold finished higher than No. 52 Louisville and No. 69 Ohio State, while Kristjansson and Meronk were one of nine golfers to finish below par.

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

The three-day tournament will be held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, which will be set up as a par-71, 7,100-yard layout.

Eighteen holes will take place from Friday through Sunday, with fixed tee times on number one and 10 starting at 9 a.m. ET on every day of the tournament.

Vanderbilt, the tournament host, returns to defend its title as the Commodores defeated Oklahoma by nine strokes last year, 845 to 854.

ETSU is making its second appearance in the Mason Rudolph Championship as the Bucs finished 11th last season.
