Sophomore carries a 3.79 cumulative GPA while majoring in nursing
MACON, Ga. (March 11, 2014) – Sophomore guard Chandler Christopher (Greeneville, Tenn.) has been selected to the Atlantic Sun Conference women’s basketball Academic All-Conference team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Christopher, a nursing major, earned the honor by carrying a 3.79 cumulative grade point average while also serving as an integral part of the Buccaneers’ women’s basketball team.
After spending the entirety of the 2012-13 campaign as a seldom-used freshman walk-on, first-year head coach Brittney Ezell liked what she saw from Christopher and decided to elevate the Greeneville native from walk-on to scholarship status prior to this season. Christopher has since recorded her first-career starts in 27 of the 29 games this season. The guard has led ETSU in scoring and rebounding three times this season and has been the team's leader in assists in 10 games.
In addition, Christopher has scored career-highs of 17 twice this season, beginning with her first career start at Appalachian State on Nov. 12 and later in a home contest against Stetson on Feb. 8. Presently, the Greeneville native is averaging 7.7 points per game while also grabbing 4.6 rebounds in 31 minutes of play.
The Atlantic Sun Conference honored FGCU's Sarah Hansen as the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year to highlight the league’s six-member Academic All-Conference team.
The A-Sun introduced the new sport-by-sport Academic All-Conference teams in the 2011-12 academic year to recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games.
