BLACKSBURG, Va. (Feb. 8, 2014) – Going toe-to-toe with nationally-ranked Virginia Tech, the ETSU women’s tennis team was outmatched Saturday afternoon, suffering a 6-1 loss in Blacksburg, Va.

“Today, Virginia Tech was just too good,” ETSU head coach Travis Sandlant said. “We played some good tennis—we just need to maintain that level of play over a long period of time.”

Senior Salma Dahbi was the lone player to find the win column for the Buccaneers (2-4), winning at No. 4 singles.

The Marrakech, Morocco, native was able to come from behind to beat Virginia Tech’s Sansitha Nandakumar, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5). With the win, Dahbi extended her win streak to a team-best four matches.

“It was a great win for Salma [Dahbi] to come back after the first set,” Sandlant said.

The 52nd-ranked Hokies (5-2) were able to win the remaining points in straight sets.

ETSU will continue non-conference play this week as it travels to Eastern Kentucky Tuesday, Feb. 11 and No. 40 Kentucky Wednesday, Feb. 12.
