JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 29, 2013) – With just two regular season conference games remaining, ETSU will look to improve its league standing as it hosts USC Upstate Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
The Buccaneers (6-5-3, 4-2-0) are currently tied with Lipscomb for third place in the Atlantic Sun.
GETTING UP TO SPEED
ETSU had its two-match win streak snapped, suffering a narrow, 1-0 setback on the road versus Northern Kentucky Wednesday, Oct. 23.
The loss also brought an end to the Bucs’ program-best six-match road win streak.
For the second consecutive match, senior goalkeeper Ryan Coulter (Dublin, Ireland) came within 30 minutes of breaking the all-time Atlantic Sun record for career shutouts.
Coulter, who is currently tied with Florida International University’s Jeff Casser (1992-95) with 23 career clean sheets, allowed the eventual game-winning goal at Northern Kentucky in the 60th minute.
Senior David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.) attempted a team-high three shots in the setback to Northern Kentucky, including a near-goal near the end of the game.
BY THE NUMBERS
ETSU remains the A-Sun leader for goals against average (0.80), save percentage (.803), and shutout percentage (0.57).
The Bucs’ shutout percentage of 0.57 ranks seventh in the nation.
USC Upstate ranks fifth in the A-Sun for scoring offense (0.92); however the Spartans (1-9-2, 1-4-1) ranks 192nd of 198 teams for goals against average, allowing an average of 2.17 goals per contest.
The Spartans will enter the match coming off a 1-0 loss to Lipscomb Saturday, Oct. 26.
USC Upstate picked up its first win of the season one week prior to the Lipscomb match, knocking off North Florida on the road, 4-3.
