ETSU Baseball to play No. 23 Mercer Thursday at 8:15 p.m.

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

DeLAND Fla. (May 22, 2013) – The ETSU baseball team advanced in the winners bracket of the Atlantic Sun Baseball Championship with its thrilling 4-3 11-inning victory over host Stetson on Wednesday, and the Blue and Gold will now take on top-seeded Mercer Thursday night at 8:15 p.m., at Melching Field.

The fourth-seeded Bucs extended their winning streak to four straight following their dramatic opening round victory and improved to 33-22 on the season.

Mercer advanced in the bracket after rallying for a 12-6 victory over No. 8 seed USC Upstate Wednesday evening. The Bears – who are currently ranked 23rd nationally – enter Thursday’s game, 43-14.

The Bears took two of three over ETSU two weeks ago in Macon, Ga., while Mercer has won 19 of the 27 games over the Bucs since joining the conference. ETSU and Mercer have faced off three times in the conference tournament, but the Bucs have dropped all three games.

The winner of Thursday night’s game will advance to Saturday and await the team who advances out of the consolation bracket. Saturday’s game time is set for 10 a.m. Meanwhile, the losing team from Thursday’s game will take on the winner of USC Upstate/Stetson on Friday at 1:15 p.m. The Spartans and Hatters play Thursday at 1:15 p.m.

Thursday’s game will be broadcast live on ASun.TV for free, while “Voice of the Bucs” Jay Sandos will carry the play-by-play call on WXSM-AM 640. Live stats will also be available via Stat Broadcast via AtlanticSun.org.
