JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 4, 2013) – ETSU women’s soccer head coach Adam Sayers announced the first signee of his 2013 recruiting class on Saturday, adding Thomai Vardali (Koufalia, Greece) to the Lady Buccaneer roster.

Vardali has an impressive resume which includes time with the Greece Women’s National Team. Vardali has totaled six games with the U-17 squad, scoring her first-ever international goal against the Faroe Islands. She was given the honor of captaining her country in U-17 games against Serbia, Turkey and Denmark. More recently, she played nine games with Greece’s U-19 team, scoring three goals against Kazakhstan, Latvia and Spain, and earning assists in three more contests. She has also captained the U-19 team.

In Greece’s club ranks, Vardali has helped PAOK FC to five championships, scoring 15 goals. Those championships have earned PAOK FC many UEFA Champion’s League appearances, and Vardali has represented her club in those league games six times.

“We are thrilled Thomai will be joining us. She is a very talented attacking player who has proven she can both score and create goals at a high level,” said Sayers, who enters his third season as head coach in the fall. “Her experiences at the national team level and in the UEFA Champions League will be invaluable. We are very much looking forward to her arrival.”

Thomai is the daughter of Helen and Konstantinos Vardali. She plans to major in exercise science.
