Stetson, FGCU, Lady Bucs all flawless in A-Sun play

DELAND and FT. MYERS, Fla. (March 27, 2013) – The ETSU women’s tennis team meets a pair of undefeated Atlantic Sun opponents over the next three days, traveling to the Sunshine State for matches with Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast.

ETSU (7-4, 2-0 A-Sun) and Stetson (9-5, 4-0 A-Sun) square off Thursday from the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center at 4 p.m. The Lady Bucs then travel to Fort Myers on Saturday for an 11 a.m., showdown against FGCU (9-3, 4-0 A-Sun) from the FGCU Tennis Complex.

Heading into the contests, ETSU carries its longest winning streak of the season of three matches. The winning trend began two weeks ago at USC Upstate, followed by a sweep of Western Carolina. ETSU returned home for its latest win, shutting out defending Atlantic Sun Tournament champion North Florida, 4-0, from the Bristol Racquet Club.

Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) continues to swing a hot racket. The Malaysian freshman has won eight in a row and holds a team-best record of 23-7 overall, 10-1 dual. During the streak, Choo has not dropped a single set and easily handled UNF’s Taylor Hollander in her last outing, 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, Choo and classmate Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) have a six-match winning streak and are 18-8 overall, 8-2 dual.

Senior Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece) has played the majority of ETSU’s top singles matches, where she is 7-1 through the spring. Kolovou enters the Florida trip having won her last three matches and stands at 17-9 overall, 9-1 dual. Gerbasi also holds a three-match winning streak and junior Giulia Andreazza (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil) has won her last two.

Stetson has won its first four Atlantic Sun contests, but sandwiched between is a loss, 5-2, to Harvard on the Hatters’ home court. Still, Stetson has won six of its last seven matches, including a pair of 7-0 sweeps against Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky.

Diana Bukajeva carries Stetson’s best record at 12-1 with a 3-0 mark at the No. 2 and a 9-1 posting at the No. 3. Andrea Crespo is expected to play on court one where she is 8-3. Crespo is 9-5 on the spring combined. Meanwhile, Sara Lazarevic is swinging the hottest racket having won her last six matches. Lazarevic is projected to play at No. 2 where she is 7-1 on the season.

Florida Gulf Coast has won five straight and has taken all four conference matches in fairly convincing fashion. Northern Kentucky and Mercer were held without a point by the Eagles, while Kennesaw State scraped out one. FGCU’s closest contest came in its conference opener against Lipscomb, 5-2.
