MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (Feb. 26, 2013) – Carding a team-best score of 1-over-par 73, ETSU freshman Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia) led the Buccaneers’ women’s golf team to a fifth-place finish Tuesday during final round play in the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge at the Shula Golf Club’s Senator Course.

Chin’s efforts allowed her to post the highest finish of any ETSU player, as she tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard. She ended the tournament 10 strokes back of champion Lindsay McGetrick of N.C. State.

Including McGetrick’s individual win, the 20th-ranked Wolfpack posted the top three individual finishes to capture the team title by a resounding 12 strokes over host Florida International. The Bucs placed fifth, ahead of programs such as Kansas, Missouri, Xavier, Louisville, Cincinnati and Memphis.

While she was pleased with Chin’s efforts, Shelton said she expects more from her talented team – especially mentally.

“Our mental approach was not where it needed to be this tournament,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “We let the golf course beat us. Now we have a week to prepare for our next two tournaments over spring break. Game management and self management will be our focus during this time, and it’s up to the team to make the transition to being more confident on the course.”

Chin’s teammates Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany), Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain) all shot rounds of 78 on Tuesday. Wahl ultimately finished tied for 21st, Evans placed tied for 30th, and Lopez collected a tie for 38th.
