Bucs go 5-1 in singles, 2-1 in doubles

WILMINGTON, N.C. (Nov. 2, 2012) – The ETSU men’s tennis team went 5-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles Friday on opening day of the Seahawk Fall Invitational, hosted by UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Tennis Complex.

Taking on Davidson in singles, ETSU rolled off five matches with Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezulea), Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain), Jorge Varon (Valencia, Venezuela) and Fernando Amon (Buenos Aires, Argentina) earning the victories. In doubles action against Boston College, ETSU won at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots, while dropping just the one match at No. 3.

“It’s good to see the guys bounce back and get some victories,” said Director of ETSU Tennis Yaser Zaatini, referring to the Buccaneers' poor singles performance two weeks ago at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships. Zaatini went on to praise Ordeig for being consistent through the fall, but also mention the team is still coming together and needs some work.

The Buccaneers continue the Seahawk Invite Saturday, taking on Davidson in doubles at 10 a.m., and the host UNCW in singles at 11:15 a.m.
