Fort Myers, Fla. (Oct. 26, 2012) – The ETSU cross country teams travel to Fort Myers for the 2012 Atlantic Sun Championships, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.

The A-Sun Championship, which will be contested at the Buckingham Cross Country Course, will begin with the women’s 5K race at 8:45 a.m., followed by the men’s 8K at 9:30 a.m.

The Buccaneer men will be running for their first A-Sun title since hoisting the trophy back in 2008 down in Macon, Ga. ETSU has won 20 conference cross country championships and will need to dethrone defending champion USC Upstate to claim their 21st title. The Bucs rank No. 6 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Region. The Blue and Gold have their top-five runners in conference’s top-12 fastest time list, and are led by sophomore Filip Jalovy (Modrice, Czech Republic), who is slotted sixth.  Jalovy ran a career best 24:54.11 at the Greater Louisville Classic at the end of September and will be looking to earn his second-straight first team all-conference honor. Upperclassmen Anders Ludvigsen (Odense, Denmark) and Landon Milhorn (The Woodlands, Texas) are peaking at the right time as they both ran personal-bests at the Blue Ridge Open on Oct. 12. Ludvingsen’s time of 25:03.78 earned him his first career A-Sun Runner of the Week honor. Sophomore Adam Chase (Kingsport, Tenn. )has been the Bucs’ solid four-man throughout the season and ran a personal best time of 25:26.78 at the Blue Ridge Open, good for 11th in the league.  Desmond Pierce (Morristown, Tenn.) rounds out the Bucs top-five and is 12th in the conference by his time of 25:30.60 at Blue Ridge Open.

The Lady Bucs have been led by freshmen Katie Hirko (Oley, Pa.) for the all but one meet this season. The Oley, Pa. native ranks third in the conference with a time of 17:57.80 at the Greater Louisville Classic. Hirko was named A-Sun Runner of the Week for her 10th-place finish at the 6K Virginia Tech Invitational. Sophomore Chelsea Clark (Fairmont, W. Va.) has been the Bucs’ second-runner, and ranks 13th in the league when she ran a personal-best at the Greater Louisville Classic with a time of 18:36.62.
