Women’s tennis readies for USTA/ITA Regional Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Oct. 17, 2012) – Five members of the ETSU women’s tennis team will head to the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships hosted by Purdue University beginning Thursday on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center.

Qualifiers for the 2012 championships will be held on Thursday, followed by main draw action from Friday through Monday. A total of 18 teams and 88 individuals are scheduled for the tournament, along with 42 doubles teams.

ETSU will be sending senior Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece), junior Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco), redshirt freshman Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and freshman Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) to compete in singles action. Kolovou and Gerbasi have already qualified for the singles main draw, while Choo and Dahbi will look to solidify their spots on Thursday. Meanwhile, the duo of Gerbasi and Choo are already entered into the main doubles draw, while Kolovou and junior Larn McShane (Hobart Tasmania, Australia) will work their way through the qualifiers.
