Meronk, Pugh wrap up play at World Amateur Team Championship on Sunday

Saturday, October 06, 2012

ANTALYA, Turkey (Oct. 6, 2012) – Mother Nature continued to run its course at the World Amateur Team Championships on Saturday as inclement weather forced the tournament format to change. Instead of playing 72-holes to determine the champion, the winning country will receive the 34th Eisenhower Trophy following Sunday's third round play.

After play was suspended on Friday due to weather delays, the entire field was able to able to finish their second round on Saturday, while a handful of golfers were able to begin the final round before the weather rolled in and brought play to a halt.

ETSU freshman Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) never began play on Saturday as he still sits at 1-under-par 142 for the tournament and is tied for 32nd in the 213-player field. Meanwhile, sophomore Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) has posted a score of 163 through the first 36 holes and is tied for 165th.

Chris Williams from the United States and Mexico’s Sebastian Vazquez – who are both thru seven holes in the final round – are tied for the individual lead at 14-under. The United States has an eight-shot lead over France on the team leaderboard. The Americans are at 24-under, while the French are at 18-under. Wales is currently tied for 22nd and Poland is tied for 28th.
