DAVIDSON, N.C. (Sept. 14, 2012) – Winners of its last four games, the ETSU men’s soccer team looks to tie the program record for most consecutive victories when it travels to Alumni Stadium on Saturday for a meeting with the Davidson Wildcats at 7 p.m.

ETSU (4-1-0) is No. 8 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire South Region Poll, having spent the last two weeks in the regional rankings. The Bucs entered the poll after defeating UNC Greensboro, Presbyterian and then-No. 17 UAB in the same week.

Leading ETSU in the early going has been junior David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.), who has scored three goals and tallied one assist through the first five games. Redshirt senior Colin Pugh (Dublin, Ireland) holds the team’s assist lead, registering three helpers including Geno’s game-winner to take down the Blazers.

ETSU’s Last Outing

The Bucs played just one game last week, earning its first come-from-behind victory of the season by defeating Radford in double-overtime, 2-1. Redshirt junior transfer Luis Calzadilla (Caracas, Venezuela) scored both ETSU goals, equalizing the game with 10 minutes left in regulation and sending in the game-winning penalty midway through the second overtime. ETSU trailed, 1-0, at halftime.

Scouting the Wildcats

Davidson (2-2-1) enters Saturday as winners of its last two games, earning two victories last weekend in the Davidson adidas Classic. The Wildcats beat Richmond, 2-1, on Saturday, followed by a, 4-3, defeat of A-Sun member USC Upstate on Monday. Against the Spartans, Davidson took a 3-1 lead in the 51st minute, but conceded two goals through the remainder of the half to force overtime. In the extra session, USC Upstate was called for a handball in the box, giving the Wildcats a penalty kick for the win. Brian McGue converted the chance, as Davidson escaped after surrendering its two-goal lead.

Andrew Dilallo heads the Wildcats’ goal scoring, netting three to this point in the 2012 campaign. McGue’s game-winning penalty tied him for second on the team with Valeriy Sviderskly. Jake Keator leads the team in shots with 11, and shares the team-lead in assists with Peter Paras.

In their last meeting

The Bucs and Wildcats had their first all-time meeting last year at Summers-Taylor Stadium, with ETSU earning the, 3-2, win. Gabe Rivera put Davidson in front eight minutes after the first whistle, but Aaron Schoenfeld leveled the score four minutes later. In the second half, Itode Fubara (Ogbema, Nigeria) put the Buccaneers in front, but McGue scored six minutes later to equalize the score once again. With less than four minutes to play, Geno sent in the game-winner with a shot that deflected off a Wildcat defender and found its way into the back of the net.
