MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (Sept. 2, 2012) – The ETSU women’s soccer team was dealt its first loss of the 2012 season on Sunday afternoon at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium, falling to MTSU, 7-1.

ETSU (4-1-0) saw its four game-winning streak, and six game regular season unbeaten streak dating back to 2011, come to an end. MTSU (3-2-0) scored four times in the first half and added on three more in the second, with seven different Blue Raiders tallying a goal in the game. The Lady Bucs’ lone goal came from junior Ramey Kerns (Kings Mountain, N.C.) in the 51st minute, cutting MTSU’s lead to, 4-1, at the time.

For the game, MTSU put on 13 shots to ETSU’s seven, while the Lady Bucs took eight corners to the Blue Raiders’ four. All eight of ETSU’s corners came in the second half.

MTSU opened up the scoring in the seventh minute, as Regina Thomas put the Blue Raiders ahead off an assist from Whitney Jorgenson. The assist was one of three Jorgenson would end up with on the afternoon.

In the 21st minute, Middle Tennessee State put on its second goal when Charity Blair picked up a blocked shot from Tori Hawkins and sent it through. Jorgenson put MTSU up by three less than two minutes later, with a blast from 25 yards out.

Kelsie Roberts put in the final goal of the half, as MTSU took a, 4-0, edge into the locker room. The Blue Raiders were credited with six shots in the half.

The Lady Bucs cut into the lead five minutes after coming out of the locker room, as Kerns struck for her fifth goal of the season. Freshman Sarah Zadrazil (St. Gilgen, Austria) sent a cross through, finding Kerns in the penalty area for ETSU’s first goal of the game. Zadrazil’s assist was her fifth of the season to lead the Lady Bucs in that category.

Allison Stallard put MTSU back up by four in the 56th minute, while Paige Goeglein and Brianna Jasenak tacked on two more late for the, 7-1, final.

ETSU heads back to Johnson City for a weekend series beginning with Western Carolina on Friday, and ending with Winthrop on Sunday.
