Women’s soccer begins 2012 season with first practice
Thursday, August 02, 2012
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 2, 2012) – Fresh off a 2011 season in which it won its first Atlantic Sun Championship, the ETSU women’s soccer team reported to Summers-Taylor Stadium on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for its first official day of practice.
All 24 student-athletes on the 2012 squad – two seniors, nine juniors, six sophomores and seven freshmen – will be led under the direction of second year head coach Adam Sayers, who coached the Lady Bucs to a 12-5-1, 7-1-1 A-Sun record in his first season. The 12 wins and seven conference wins both tied the program’s single-season record, with ETSU entering the 2011 A-Sun Championship as a No. 2 seed – its highest in program history.
“We’re very glad to be back,” said Sayers at the end of Tuesday morning’s practice. “This was our first full training session and we’re certainly happy with the results and how everyone has performed so far.”
Sayers will see the Lady Bucs take the field for their first exhibition game Aug. 7, when ETSU travels to Lexington Va. to take on VMI at 6 p.m. After a home exhibition against Appalachian State on Aug. 12, the 2012 regular season gets underway Aug. 17 on the road against Tennessee Tech.
