Power captures eGolf Tour Spring Creek Classic
Monday, June 25, 2012 Courtesy of eGolfprofessionaltour.com GORDONSVILLE, Va. (June 25, 2012) - Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) posted rounds of 67-64-66--197 to post a 16-under total en route to capturing his second win of the 2012 season, as well as the event's $15,000 first-place prize. Power, a former East Tennessee State golfer, entered the final round in a tie for the 36-hole lead with Adam Mitchell (Atlanta, GA), but quickly fell three shots behind with bogeys on No. 3, 5 and 7 to fall to 9-under par. Birdies on Nos. 8, 9 and 12 allowed Power to pull even with Mitchell at 12-under par, but it was a birdie at the par-4 14th that gave him the outright lead at 13-under. Area storms temporarily suspended play at that point, and when it resumed, Power pulled away from the field. Birdies on 15, 17 and 18 gave him closing round of 5-under 66 and a stunning five-shot victory. The $15,000 first-place prize pushed his season-long earnings to $36,768, good for No. 9 on the tour’s money list. Power won his first career eGolf Tour title at the River Run Classic in March of this year. Mitchell, who closed with a bogey, triple-bogey, bogey finish, posted a final-round 75 to finish T8 on the week. The third member of Friday’s final pairing, 2007 British Amateur champion Drew Weaver (High Point, NC), made a late rally of his own with birdies on 15 and 16 to post a closing 2-under 69 and grab runner-up honors at 11-under 202. The finish continued an unreal stretch for Weaver, who has ascended to the top of the eGolf Tour’s money list with a torrid month and a half of golf. Weaver, who joined Mitchell on the victorious 2009 U.S. Walker Cup team, has compiled a staggering record of play over the past eight weeks on the eGolf Tour. Beginning with the Columbia Open in early May, the former Virginia Tech star has recorded a win (Willow Creek Open) and four runner-up finishes over his past six starts to vault into No. 1 on the tour’s money list with $77,813 in earnings. Jhared Hack (Sanford, FL), a three-time tour winner and winner of last week’s Bolle Classic, posted rounds of 69-68-67—204 to finish in solo third, in turn earning $5,710 on the week. Brian Scherer (Midland, TX) and Luke Guthrie (Quincy, IL) finished tied for fourth at 8-under 205, with each player earning $4,250 for his efforts. Guthrie, a recent University of Illinois graduate, was making his first career eGolf Tour start after notching first-team and second-team “All America” honors in his last two seasons as a standout member of the Illini golf team. At the PGA TOUR’s St. Jude FedEx Classic two weeks ago, Guthrie posted a T18 finish in his professional debut. Spring Creek Golf Club Par 71; 7,349 yards
