JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Apr. 23, 2012) – After clinching a much needed home series against Mercer over the weekend, the ETSU baseball team returns to action with a pair of midweek games against Furman and Western Carolina.

Wednesday’s home game against Western Carolina, which was originally scheduled for 7:05 p.m., has been moved up to a 5:05 p.m. start at Thomas Stadium. The Bucs are coming off a big series win against Mercer over the weekend. ETSU dropped the opener before rallying to win the next two games of the series. The Bucs hit .313 for the weekend, while also posting a solid 3.00 ERA during the three-game set.

After trailing 3-0 through four innings, Furman rallied with three runs in the fifth to lift the Paladins past ETSU 7-4 back on March 13. Furman enters Tuesday’s game with a 18-23 overall record after getting swept by Appalachian State over the weekend. Will Owens leads the Paladins offensively with a .344 average to go along with nine doubles, a triple, a home run and 25 RBI. Furman tied up the all-time series against ETSU after getting the victory earlier this season. Each team has won 36 games of the 72 meetings all-time in the series.

Western Carolina pounded out 10 hits to defeat the Bucs in Cullowhee, N.C. 7-3 back on March 7. The Catamounts enter Wednesday’s game with a 25-15 overall record after getting swept by Samford over the weekend. Western Carolina has been a strong offensive team so far this year as the Catamounts sport a .319 team batting average. Nine players are batting .300 or better led by Tyler White, who is hitting .390 with 14 doubles, a homer and 24 RBI. The Catamounts have defeated the Bucs six straight times in the series and they lead the all-time series, 61-28.

After the two midweek games, ETSU will hit the road for a three-game non-conference series at nationally ranked Arizona beginning on Friday.
