Men’s golf in second after day one of A-Sun Championship; Enoch tied for first individually

BRASELTON, Ga. (Apr. 16, 2012) – Behind strong efforts from Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) and Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.), the ETSU men’s golf team fired an even-par 288 to sit in second place after day one of the Atlantic Sun Championship.
North Florida took command of the leaderboard on day with a team score of 287. The Ospreys finished the day at The Legends at Chateau Elan one under par.
Enoch tallied six birdies on the day to pace the field with a 4-under 68 along with Sean Dale of North Florida. Lawson joined Enoch in the top-three after firing an opening round 2-under 70. James Beale of Mercer, Matt Nagy of Kennesaw State, Brad Sill of USC Upstate and Patrick Williams of Florida Gulf Coast share fourth place honors at 1-under.
Defending champion Kennesaw State moved into third place after firing a team score of 290. Rounding out the top-five are FGCU (292) and USC Upstate (299). Mercer totaled a team score of 303, which put them in a tie for sixth place with Jacksonville. Just eight strokes separated the final three teams with Stetson (307) taking eighth, followed by Belmont (313) and Lipscomb (315).
ETSU freshman Scott Gibson (Dumfries, Scotland) is tied for 12th at 1-over (73), while Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) carded a 77 and is tied for 26th in the 50-player field. Pugh saved his round after a totaling a 33 (3-under) on the back nine after a disappointing 44 on the opening nine.
ETSU will be paired with North Florida and Kennesaw State for round two beginning tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. Live stats will be available at Golfstat.com.
