ORANGE PARK (March 11, 2012) With three players shooting 75 or lower, the ETSU women’s golf team finished with a solid third and final round Sunday in the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational at the Eagle Landing Golf Club.

Sophomore Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) wrapped up a strong tournament effort, leading the Buccaneers with a 10th-place finish on the individual leaderboard. Evans – who fired a 3-over-par 75 on Sunday – helped the Bucs to a sixth place team showing in the 18-team field.

“Sian had a great tournament,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “As a team, we had three solid days, but a few mistakes here or there kept us from reaching the potential that we were able to realize in the fall. We have two more tournaments to improve and play at that level before we head to the conference tournament.”

ETSU finished with a score of 903 (304-299-300), 20 strokes off the pace set by team champion South Florida. Individually, Campbell’s Kaylin Yost took home the championship by one stroke over a trio of other players. Evans finished just five strokes back of Yost.

Along with Evans’ efforts, freshman Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) and senior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) provided the best individual rounds of the day for ETSU with a pair of 2-over-par scores of 74. Wahl finished tied for 21st, while Vizcarrondo finished tied for 34th.

The Bucs will return to action March 16 in the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate. Follow the ETSU women’s golf team throughout the 2012 spring season by visiting ETSUBucs.com and clicking on the women’s golf link.
