Gibson continues to lead men’s golf at Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico (Feb. 20, 2012) – Freshman Scott Gibson (Dumfries, Scotland) fired a second round 75 and continues to pace the ETSU men’s golf team after two rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club.
Gibson, who shot a 2-under 70 on day one to pace the Bucs, also shot the team’s low score on Monday. He is now tied for 25th in the 75-player field at 1-over-par.
No. 8 Alabama continues to lead in the team standings as the Crimson Tide own a commanding 13-shot advantage going into the final day at 21-under. Host and No. 48 Purdue is in second at 8-under, while No. 13 Clemson sits in third at 7-under. The only other team in the field under-par is Virginia Tech as the Hokies are in fourth at 1-under. ETSU is in 15th position at 46-over.
James White of Georgia Tech, the No. 22 ranked individual in the country, leads in the individual standings at 8-under overall. No. 12 Justin Thomas of Alabama, who led after the first round, is tied for second at 6-under. Bobby Wyatt also of Alabama sits at 6-under as well. No. 27 Tyler Duncan of Purdue is in fourth at 5-under.
Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) and Tom Heggarty (Cheshire, England) shot matching rounds of 79 on Monday. Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) shot an 83 on Monday for ETSU’s fourth counted score.
The third and final round of the tournament will begin tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. The Bucs will be paired with North Carolina and Michigan for the final 18-holes.
