ETSU baseball volunteers at local youth clinic

Friday, February 03, 2012

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 3, 2012) – The ETSU baseball team took time out of its busy schedule by volunteering at the Ninth Annual Footsteps Clinic and the Second Annual Coach’s Roundtable Clinic on Saturday, January 21 at The EDGE Performance Sports Center.

The free clinic, which was for girls and boys between the ages of seven and 12, was designed for those preparing to try out or play for a little league or instructional league. Fielding, throwing, pitching and batting stations were set up to teach the fundamentals in each area of the game.

"We are constantly trying to keep our players involved with the youth of our community,” said ETSU head coach Tony Skole. “Our program takes a lot of pride in our community service and every time we have an opportunity to have a positive impact on the youth of the Tri-Cities we try to take advantage of that. This clinic at The Edge was a great way to start the new year and get our players around these young kids. This is a great event and we look forward to it every year."

In addition to the youth clinic, the ETSU coaching staff conducted a free roundtable presentation for youth coaches about the fundamentals of the game.

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from its student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the year.

The Buccaneers open their season at home with a three-game set against Eastern Kentucky, beginning on Friday, February 17.
