CLINTON, S.C. (October 18, 2011) – The trio of Presley Mabrey, Caroline Cann and Allison Brown each recorded double-digit kills to lead Presbyterian to a come-from-behind victory over ETSU, 3-2 (17-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-13), Tuesday night inside Templeton Arena.

Presbyterian improves to 8-14 on the season with the victory, while ETSU falls to 10-13 overall.

Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Bucs with 20 kills on 48 attempts with just four miscues for a .333 attack percentage. Devine also recorded her ninth double-double of the season as she added 14 digs. Bethany Gesell (High Point, N.C.) finished the night with 13 kills, four digs and four blocks for the Bucs. Kiley Tamblyn (Torrance, Calif.) added 16 digs to lead ETSU defensively. Jamie Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) dished out 37 assists with eight digs, three kills and two blocks. Meanwhile, Jamie Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) had eight kills and four blocks in the contest.

ETSU out-hit Presbyterian in the match .280 to .219, while also out-blocking PC 9-4. The Blue Hose did record a match-high .450 hitting percentage without an error in the decisive fifth set.

ETSU had control of the lead for much of the opening set, but the Bucs were never able to pull away early on. The first major run came when ETSU turned a 14-13 lead into a 17-13 advantage. Stancliff was key for the Bucs during the stretch by adding a kill and a block. The Bucs maintained the advantage and closed the set on a 5-1 run to take the set, 25-17. ETSU hit a stellar .414 in the set, while limiting Presbyterian to just a .057 attack efficiency.

The second set was back and forth throughout the early part of the frame. Presbyterian broke a 15-15 tie after a kill by Presley Mabrey and an ETSU error gave the Blue Hose the 17-15 advantage. Presbyterian maintained the two point advantage until ETSU responded with a 4-0 run to take a 21-19 lead, forcing a PC timeout. From there, the Bucs never looked back as they took the set, 25-21.

ETSU looked to be in control during the third set after reeling off four straight points to take the early 10-5 lead, which forced a quick Presbyterian timeout. Following the break, the Blue Hose ran off four straight points of their own to cut the lead to just one at 10-9. Presbyterian quickly took the lead by breaking an 11-11 tie to take a 13-11 advantage. After ETSU battled back to regain the lead on several occasions, Presbyterian broke a 21-21 tie by winning two straight points to take the 23-21 lead. After ETSU won the next two points to tie the score, the Blue Hose got two straight kills to clinch the set 25-23.

Presbyterian took the lead from the very beginning of the fourth set. The Blue Hose built up an eight point lead that they would never relinquish. PC never trailed at any point in the set, earning the win 25-21. The Blue Hose hit .161 in the set, while limiting the Bucs to just a .088 attack efficiency.

ETSU had a slim lead for much of the fifth set, but the Bucs could not put a significant run together to extend the lead. However, with the score tied at 10, ETSU got three straight kills to take its largest lead of the set at 13-10. Presbyterian put together the most crucial run of the match – a 5-0 spurt to rally from behind to take the set 15-13, while also clinching the match.

The Bucs return home for a pair of Atlantic Sun matches over the weekend. ETSU welcomes Mercer to Brooks Gym on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting Kennesaw State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
