ETSU finishes ninth at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (October 16, 2011) – ETSU freshman Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) fired a final round 4-under-par 68 to lead the Bucs to a ninth place team finish at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club on Sunday.
Kent State rallied from eight shots behind to win the team title after a final round 278 (10-under) – the lowest team score of the tournament – to win the title at 869. N.C. State had the lead after two rounds, but the Wolfpack shot a 299 (+11) on the final day to finish in fourth at 882. Virginia held steady to finish in second at 876 after a final round 290. Wake Forest shot a solid 289 on Sunday to finish in third place at 879.
ETSU shot a 291 on the final day to move up one spot on the leaderboard and finish inside the top-10 at 894.
Memphis finished in fifth place (885), followed by Clemson (886), Missouri (891), UNC Wilmington (892), ETSU and Tennessee (897) to round out the top-10. Virginia Tech (910), Villanova (912), Louisville (912), Toledo (916) and Army (958) concluded the team scoring.
Mark McMillen of N.C. State, the individual leader after two rounds of play, shot a final round 74 to finish tied for first place. Jace Long of Missouri came from three strokes back to tie McMillen at 214 (2-under) following a final round 71. McMillen and Long were the only two players in the field to finish under-par.
Meanwhile, Pugh fired the second lowest score of the day as he finished tied for 18th at 221 (+5). Pugh moved up 25 spots on the leaderboard during the final round. His round included five birdies and just one bogey.
Redshirt senior Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) finished tied with Pugh at 221 following a 2-over 74 in Sunday’s final round.
Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) also shot a final round 74 to finish tied for 50th at 230.
Freshmen Scott Gibson (Dumfries, Scotland) and Sam Edwards (Bigbury, England) each shot a 75 on Sunday. Gibson finished tied for 35th at 226, while Edwards tied for 46th at 229.
The Bucs conclude the fall season next week after they participate in the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta, Ga.
