Men’s golf finishes eighth at Rod Myers Invitational

(October 2, 2011) – The ETSU men’s golf team fought cold and windy conditions to move up to eighth place on the final day of the Rod The Bucs shot a 308 in Sunday’s final round to finish the tournament with a 908 total (306-294-308). Duke shot a final round 286 – the low team score of the day – to win the team title at 861. No. 19 Baylor finished in second at 870, while Charlotte – the first day leaders – finished in third at 872. No. 22 Iowa finished fourth, followed by No. 25 Tulsa, Michigan and No. 5 Tennessee. Coastal Carolina and North Carolina tied for ninth, while Georgia Southern finished in 11th. Julian Suri of Duke shot a final round 68 – the low round of the day – to win the individual title by two strokes over day one leader Steven Ihm of Iowa. Suri finished the tournament at 5-under overall. Joakim Mikkelsen of Baylor finished in third at 1-under. The trio finished as the only players in the field to compile under-par totals. Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) led the Bucs with a tie for 17th showing in the 63-player field. Enoch finished at 5-over for the tournament (76-69-76—221). Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) had the low ETSU round on the day with a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 32nd at 11-over (78-76-73—227). Sam Edwards (Bigbury, England) finished just a stroke behind Pugh at 12-over for the event and tied for 36th (77-71-80—228). Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) tied for 47th at 16-over (75-78-79—232). The Bucs return to action on Friday, Oct. 14 as they host the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Blackthorn Club at The Ridges in Jonesborough.
