NASHVILLE, Tenn. (October 1, 2011) – Katie Rose and Kaycee Green combined for 23 kills to lead Lipscomb past ETSU, 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-16), Saturday afternoon inside Allen Arena.

Lipscomb moves to 9-6 overall on the season and a perfect 4-0 in Atlantic Sun play, keeping them atop the league standings along with Belmont. In addition, the Bisons have now won 39 straight Atlantic Sun Conference matches, the second longest streak in the nation. Meanwhile, ETSU falls to 7-10 overall and 1-2 in A-Sun play.

Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the ETSU attack with 11 kills and nine digs. Kayla Williams (El Paso, Texas) dished out 27 assists, while also adding eight digs and two blocks. Ivey Rice (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) had eight kills and seven kills, respectively. Kiley Tamblyn (Torrance, Calif.) had a match-high 15 digs to lead the Buccaneers defensively.

The opening started out as a back and forth affair as neither team could pull away early. ETSU held a 4-1 advantage to start the match, but Lipscomb chipped away at the lead. After the Bisons took an 11-9 advantage, a McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) kill cut the lead to one. That was as close as the Bucs would get in the frame as Lipscomb ran off nine straight points to extend the lead to 20-10. From there, Lipscomb maintained the advantage and took the set, 25-15. Lipscomb out-hit ETSU, .250 to .111 in the frame, while also out-blocking the Bucs 4-2. Devine led the Bucs with three kills in the set.

The second set was tight throughout as neither team could gain more than a three point advantage. After Rice pulled the Bucs within one at 23-22, Green provided a kill to give the Bisons set point. Lipscomb clinched the set after an ETSU attack error, giving the Bisons the 25-22 victory. Rice and Devine each had four kills in the set to pace the Buccaneers. Lipscomb took the set despite being out-hit by the Bucs, .205 to .170 and out-blocked 4-0.

Lipscomb gained control from the very beginning of the third set as the Bisons jumped out to an 8-1 advantage. ETSU made a run to get back into the match by reeling off four straight points to cut the lead to three at 11-8, forcing a Lipscomb timeout. The Bucs could not get any closer; however, as the Bisons later extended the lead after going on a number of small runs. Lipscomb took the set, 25-16, while also clinching the match.

The Bucs return home on Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8 as they welcome Jacksonville and North Florida to Brooks Gym. Friday’s match against Jacksonville is set for 7:00 p.m., while Satuday’s contest with North Florida will begin at 3 p.m.
